Sterilization Guide
This general guide outlines good practice for cleaning, inspecting and sterilizing reusable stainless-steel instruments. Always follow your local regulations, your facility’s validated procedures and any instrument-specific instructions for use.
1. Cleaning
- Rinse instruments promptly after use to stop debris drying on surfaces.
- Clean with a neutral-pH enzymatic detergent and a soft brush; open hinged instruments to reach the joints.
- Rinse thoroughly with purified water and dry completely.
2. Inspection
- Check for cleanliness, damage, alignment and smooth action.
- Remove any instrument showing pitting, cracks or corrosion from service.
3. Sterilization
- Sterilize using a validated method appropriate to the instrument (for example, steam autoclave) per your facility’s protocol.
- Allow instruments to dry and cool before storage.
4. Storage
- Store clean, dry instruments in a protected, low-humidity environment.
